Private lessons are intended to help students reach a higher level of proficiency on their instrument. It requires that students be self-motivated and set aside time each week to practice and work toward goals outside of their weekly lesson time.
Generally, beginning students start with 30 minute lessons and the length of lesson can be increased over time. It is recommended that high school students take 45 or 60 minute lessons.
There are many benefits to taking private lessons! Students learn practice techniques, as well as how to set long-term goals and gradually work toward them. They study one-on-one and are exposed to another person’s musical interpretations and sound quality. Lessons are meant to help students expand their repertoire, challenging them to learn new music in addition to what they do in school band.
