Katie Schripsema, MT-BC, MOTR/L

Katie Schripsema is a board-certified music therapist and occupational therapist, and owner of Duke City Music Therapy, LLC.  She holds a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of New Mexico and Bachelor’s degrees in Music Therapy and Flute Performance from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.  Originally from New Mexico, Katie is passionate about expanding awareness and bringing music therapy to her home state.

Katie’s education and experience as both an occupational therapist and music therapist, have given her a unique skill set and knowledge that she brings to each therapy session.

Before opening her private practice, Katie worked as a music therapy intern at The Center for Discovery in Harris, New York, as well as volunteered at the MSU Community Music School in East Lansing, Michigan.  She has experience working with a variety of populations in many different settings including preschool children, children and adults with developmental disabilities and autism, individuals with physical impairments or injuries, children in foster care, and adults with traumatic brain injury.

In addition to her work as a music and occupational therapist, Katie teaches private flute lessons for students of all ages.  She continues to perform around the Albuquerque area, as well as work with local band programs.  She is familiar with audition requirements for groups such as the Albuquerque Youth Symphony and New Mexico Allstate, and continually encourages her private students to be active members of the music community in New Mexico.
